Linotte is a new brand from the French eyewear industry, based on a unique material. While we were looking for a new natural material, local and resistant, we decided linen was the best option. The plant grows on the coast of Normandie, it does not need much water and we do not need chemical products to transform it. All those details combined make linen one of the most sustainable fibres. To complete the idea, we manufacture the frames from A to Z in France, in between Les Vosges and Jura.

The material
Willing to find a sustainable material, that would also match the expectations of the eyewear industry, we naturally agreed that linen was a unique compound.
It took a few years of research and development to find the perfect fusion in between the linen fibre and the compostable acetate.
Available in three colors and several weavings, the result is stunning.

The collection
From classic to original, our shapes stand in between vintage and extravagant looks. We chose to make our frames thick, so the material is highlighted.
We chose to create assumed shapes. Original but still easy going, our collection is inspired from classic shapes with a special authentic touch.

The linen
The plant needs very specific climate conditions that are only present on the coastline from Caen (France) to Amsterdam (The Netherlands).
For this reason, 80% of the world’s production of linen comes from this area and France is the main producer.
Apart from its local production, linen has the big advantage of not needing much water to grow. It even helps the soil to regenerate. The transformation from plant to fibre is a mechanical process that does not need any chemical products. This is the reason why linen is one of the most sustainable fibres.
Originally used in the clothing industry, this linen fibre now appears in the technical products and composite materials. By using this bio sourced and biodegradable matrix, we create high performing pieces, while reducing our impact on the environment.
